These Are My Confessions

It's about to get shameful.

(Pssttt....The Glee Mash Up is way better than the original!)

  • Sometimes Ivy gets to the spit up on the floor before I do.
  • I rarely put Connor's clothes in his drawers/closet. They normally sit on top of the dresser at the door.
  • I wish I breastfed for multiple reasons but  mostly because a boob is easier to clean than a bottle.
  • The only reason the dishes get done most nights is to wash said bottles.
  • The dirty cloth diapers don't always immediately go into the diaper pail.
  • Connor is often caught in clothes that are just a bit too small.
  • I complain about the once a night feedings that Connor wakes up for.
  • I'm letting Connor fuss a little right now so I can finish this post.

Oh, It's you again.

Today started out as a pretty lazy day. Connor and I hung out this morning and took a nap together for about an hour. Then I left him in the bed and he continued his nap for another hour! I got a lot done and it was fantastic. Once Connor woke up, I jumped in the shower and went to pick up Michael.

We headed to downtown Concord to look in all the antique stores and "gift shops" and enjoy the wind and warmth brought in from hurricane Irene. I wore Connor as we walked around because I knew his stroller wouldn't fit well in the tiny cramped stores. I was thisclose to buying a tiny rocker to refinish from an antique store but it was $45.00. I almost offered them $30 but I wasn't sure if bargaining was appropriate or not. I can't get the picture of that rocker out of my mind. We may have to go back and get it!

Next we headed to drop off Micheal and Connor was ready to eat. Micheal was nice enough to let us come in so I could feed him there and not drive a screaming baby home. We ended up hanging out for awhile and discussing Michael's upcoming bachlorette party and bridal shower. We also made plans for the night. Chris was so nice and said he would fix our plumbing woes and they would stay for dinner.

Chris worked on our bathtub and kitchen sink while Michael and I cooked dinner/tended to Connor and Jacob. Steven mowed the lawn while we worked inside. We all sat down to a nice dinner of enchiladas and left over margarita cupcakes for dessert. I totally understand the benefit of having more that one family under the same roof. With all the extra hands around making dinner and taking care of Connor was nearly the challenge it usually is!

It was a pretty easy day!

A Picture...

Is worth a  thousand words. Sigh.

"Long Weekend"

It wasn't a  long weekend for most people but anytime Steven has a Saturday and Sunday off is a long weekend for us. Yesterday we woke up with a happy Connor and just laid around a played for a good piece of the morning. Then we set off to Babies R Us to buy a play mat for Connor using a 20% off coupon. BUST! They wouldn't honor the coupon because a play mat is not considered a baby item but a toy. FOR REAL! Joke's on them. We ordered it for twenty dollars less from Amazon. Free shipping and all. BOOOO BRU. The play mat should be here Tuesday. Wahoo.

Later that night we met the grandparents for dinner and then headed to the park. There was live music and fireworks. Connor was in very good spirits and even fell asleep in his stroller. Ivy loved the mass of people and the cool night. We ran into my assistant Toni and her daughters and stopped to talk. Ivy loved Sydney. They were so stinkin' cute. I wish I was better at taking pictures!

Sunday morning came early but we made it to church. This was the first time in a month we made it. Connor must find some secret comfort in Sunday mornings because it's the only day he sleep in! We enjoyed listening to our new pastor's sermon. Connor enjoyed it so much that he cooed and gabbed through the whole thing. Seriously, this was the most I have ever heard him talk. I loved it, as did the rest of the congregation!

Sunday afternoon I went with my book club to see The Help. I loved it and it was so true to the book. It was also super nice to get out and see a movie like a big girl!

We had a lazy and uneventful Sunday evening. Fantastic!

So there you have it, our "long weekend." Here's to another long weekend...in 6 weeks.

2 months old

Dear Connor,
At two months old, you've captured my heart and I didn't even know it. I was sick with worry as we drove to your 2 month check today. It was worse than when I was on the way to the hospital to have you! I couldn't even watch them give you your shots.

You smile constantly when you see my face and of course I can't help but smile back! You've even got a little giggle starting to work it's way out. Tummy time is still your least favorite time of the day. The good news is that the doctor said it wasn't necessary as long as you have plenty of other times to practice your head control. I still want you to spend some time on your stomach though.

You sir, are an amazing sleeper! You slept through the night for the first time when you were 8 weeks old. You haven't slept through the night since but I'm okay with that. You only wake up once to eat between the hours of 2 and 4 then wake up each morning between 7 and 8. I can't complain. Oh and you are sleeping in your crib all night now. The pack n play is coming out of our room tomorrow.

Food is your friend and gripe water is my hero! Since we began putting gripe water in your bottles, you are the happiest baby around. You haven't fussed much at all! Every 2.5 to 3 hours you're eating 6oz of formula. The doctor said this is more frequent then a normal baby would eat during the day but since you sleep so soundly at night it evens out.

14 lbs 13 oz and 25 3/4 inches long, those were you measurements at your 2 month check. You are in the 99% for both. This explains the 3-6 month clothes you are now wearing.

Happy two months baby Connor!

Love Always,
 Mom
This picture cracks me up. CHUNKY!

Infant Tylenol and Gripe Water

If you asked me to describe Connor's demeanor I'm honestly not sure what I would say. After listening to close friends talk about their babies, I decided Connor seems a little more fussy than your average baby. I can constantly feel his stomach churning and gas bubbles moving around. After doing a lot of research and forum surfing I decided to give gripe water a shot. HOLY COW! HOLY COW! HOLY COW! I never knew what a sweet, smiley, happy baby I have.

Gripe water calls for 1 tsp up to 6 times a day during or after feeding. I gave Connor 1/4 a teaspoon with his bottles today and he only fussed when we got tired or hungry. I could have left that baby in his swing all day and he would have just laid there! Tomorrow I plan to talk to the doctor about it just to see if he has anything to add.

And speaking of the doctor, tomorrow is Connor's 2 month well check. I'm dreading it. He will be getting shots and it makes me cringe just to think about it. Everyone told me to have infant Tylenol on hand. Tonight I went on a search for infant Tylenol and couldn't seem to find it anywhere. Finally, I found one box of the Walgreen's generic. I wanted to double check with the pharmacist about the appropriate age because it wasn't listed anywhere on the box. After talking to her I found out why it was so hard to find the Tylenol. All children's Tylenol has been recalled due to a musty odor so people have purchased all the generics. I was so thankful to find a single box.

Here's hoping tomorrow isn't too hard on Connor. It's his 2 month birthday and our 3 year anniversary.

And Exhale...

I've been holding my breath for 8 weeks and I finally feel like I can exhale.

Connor has a routine.

I understand my baby's needs.

I know what to do.

When I was studying to be a teacher, several of my professors made reference to the moment when it becomes real. Your very first day of school when you shut the door behind you. That's when you really become a real teacher. There was a similar moment referenced with parenthood. I was terrified of the moment we brought Connor home and had that "now what" feeling. We took a deep breath and left the hospital anxiously heading home. I don't think I've breathed since.....until now.

I'm a little slow but praise God that I've finally got my breath back. I know what to do.....at least for now. ; )

Picking Veggies and Checking on Dogs

Connor and I got up bright and early this morning to beat the heat. We had to make the 1 hour trek to my dad's house to check on the dogs and pick veggies from the garden. Thankfully it was only 83 degrees when we got there. That's great compared to the upper 90's we've been tortured with lately....seriously, it's not even worth leaving the house.

We got to dad's and were greeted by the dogs. Ivy got to run around and play for awhile too. I can't go to dad's without taking her. Ivy hasn't been walked daily since Connor was born so we have to take advantage of every opportunity. I fed Connor then headed to the garden. I had to take Connor in his car seat because the garden is so far away from the house. The mosquitoes were very thick so I had to put a blanket over the carrier. He had beads of sweat on his face by the time I was done. I picked 2 envirosaxs full of veggies. One was FULL of tomatoes. My dad goes a little overboard as far as his garden is concerned. I picked squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, green peppers and red peppers. I dropped tons of stuff off at Katie's and took some home for myself.

No need to go to the Farmer's Market this weekend!
